Conditioning is added to their curriculum to enhance muscle awareness and core strength.
Jazz 2 and 3 focus on learning jazz terminology and technique while exploring assorted styles including classical jazz, musical theater, jazz funk, and lyrical/contemporary. The class warm-up and progressions will develop musicality, athleticism, alignment, and coordination in students, which supports healthy growth across other dance styles.
Students will be introduced to tap technique and terminology as they build their skills in musicality, sound clarity, speed and style. Tappers can expect to learn double and triple time steps, 3&5 beat riffs, turns, and intricate rhythms.
Ballet Level 3 students begin specific training for pre-pointe work. Dancers focus on proper leg extension, foot shape, and upper body positions. Repetition and retention are emphasized with increased difficulty at the ballet barre and center work as students develop movements sequences, port de bras, balance, musicality, and imaginative artistry.
Ballet Level 4 students deepen their understanding of ballet fundamentals and the level of commitment required for excellence. Barre and center work combinations become more advanced as students work on sequences, transition steps, and stamina. Students are assessed for pointe work, and, depending on individual progression and development, are given the opportunity to begin work en pointe.
Ballet Level 5 features more intense training as students mature and further their knowledge of classical ballet vocabulary. Classes will focus on strengthening technique in pointe work, developing articulation of port de bras and transition steps, pirouettes, clarity of allegro, musicality, and artistic growth. During this progression, students become aware of the long-term goals in advanced classical ballet training. Each student’s natural abilities are fostered, and students are encouraged to pursue their individual passion for dance.
Levels 4 and 5 Jazz will give students a thorough grounding in jazz terminology and technique while giving them an opportunity to grow as performers. Students will use this technical base to explore a variety of jazz styles, including classical, musical theater, jazz funk and lyrical/contemporary.
